I love Deled but there is just 1 thing which gives me a hard time with it.. and that's the fact that you can't have the modeling and creation be grid snapped based like in 3DWS.. It is something I suggested before and I don't know if there's any progress.
Currently if I want to create a hollowed room I have to snap the inner part verts to the grid after it's made, also scaling a cylinder for instance is obviously also not snap based and if I want it to snap it to the grid so it would fit exactly in a location it deforms.. and I don't mean just those, I mean everything.. if there could only be perhaps a switch button to turn it on and off.
In 3dws however, everything you make snaps to the grid from advance and it's much more easier to accurately snap objects together and having nothing deformed..
Here you can see a comparison between the programs in that issue, both are flash clips.

Thanks a lot.

Right click on an object and select VERTEX snapping mode.
If everything snapped to the grid all the time, DeleD wouldn't be a very good 3d editor. It's usefull for a lot more things than making boxy rooms. |

I know but the vertex sapping causes deformations on many shapes, if you'd look at the clips you'll see what I mean..
I know the fact that it's useful for other things than "boxy rooms" and that's why I'm suggesting a switch button to turn it on or off, it's very useful for so many things but mainly for accuracy. View the clips, they're very small and you'll see what I mean by accuracy. currently there is no realy way for creating enviroment objects and have them placed in specific spaces accurately.. that causes many inaccuracies when creating complex environments (for instance subtracting a shape in an exact location and other tools) |

I really never have any problems with this, but if it is implented it will centrainly come in handy sometimes, like the cilinder.... _________________ Chickens RULE | www.elementrix.nl |

With center snap, and modeling everything in a proper scale, I never have any issues like this. Everything fits exactly where it goes.
I've never been able to do this in any other modeler. |

What does center snap have to do with it?
How would you do the room with the cylinder your way after viewing my deled screencapture?
Perhaps a slightly different idea is in place, for instance a third snap method that snaps shapes to the grid on move or on scale without deforming them, deformation of shapes due to grid snapping is just not reasonable while choosing a shape as a whole or more than 1 vert or even a face and not specific verts, that does not happen in any other modeling program. |

How exactly would that be snapped then? The way you describe it, DeleD would chose one vertex of the object and move the entire object so that the vertex lies on the grid lines. Thus, it could as well be centre snapping.

Here is another example of this simple feature in 3D Studio Max,
I believe it's "usefull for a lot more things than making boxy rooms".

Okay, I watched both videos now. What I see is that you complain about the fact that when you create a cylinder in DeleD not all vertices won't snap to the grid and that you have to align the vertices yourself after hollowing a cube. Now, that could be prevented if you used vertex snapping (with the cube). Regarding the cylinder, I don't know what your problem is because on your last video, the inner vertices of the cylinder don't snap either. The problem is that a program can't possibly know which vertices you want to be snapped.
Concerning the cylinder however, I reckon you would like some sort of Bounding Box snap option, where the object as a whole would snap to the grid? _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

I did use a vertex snap. Basically hollowing in segments does the right job and is aligned to the grid though rescaling of the segments is needed for it to look like a whole shape, however, there would be overlapping polygons and the hollow by percentage tool is better for that manner but it doesn't align to the grid and that you have to do by yourself.

Exactly !!! That would definitely do the trick ! if resizing and moving while the object is snapped to the grid without shape deformation would be possible that would fix the accuracy dilemma and you would be able to snap any object exactly to certain sizes and locations !
Because I would use deled for environment creation 90% of the time (and so do others) I would use such a feature all the time. |
