I got slightly mixed up.. every time I try to select specific polygons on a mesh to scale in the UV editor it selects other polygons on the mesh as well and scales them too... in the UV editor I can see the polygons I selected and other polygons as well, why does it select all instead of the ones I chose? |

I am not too sure if I'm understanding your problem right, but perhaps multiple faces share the same UV coordinates, so you select multiple mappings at the same time in the UV editor?
Does selecting a single face in the 3D view, then moving it in the UV editor help (so no selecting anything in the UV editor)?
What usually works nicely is to temporarily assign a different material to all the faces you are not working on, disentangling them one by one. |

What I'm doing now is extracting the faces, then I texture them and I merge them to the original object once I'm done.. works but kind of silly |
