I've been working on and off on a little chess game called ChesseD. It kinda serves as a testproject alongside DeleD with every 3D object made using DeleD. Eventually, I want to make some sort of BattleChess clone, with animations and all that.

Sofar, it features this:
- full 3D gameplay
- simple background image
- original chess pieces (made by WhiteWing, thanks! Very Happy)
- each piece knows its particular movement possibilities
- optionally shows where the selected piece may be moved to (great if you want to learn how to play chess Wink)
- keeps score of players (each piece represents a number of points)

Of course, it needs a lot of work. Like:
- implement all chess rules
- animation
- better graphics (e.g. fullscreen etc)
- etc etc

Here's a screenshot of a game in progress. It shows the black player having a knight selected with the possible locations to where the piece can be moved rendered in yellow.

That camera angle looks a bit strange. I'm assuming it's customizable at runtime? A 3/4 view would be nice, with a real tabletop as the background or something.

Laughing You got me! Laughing

Seriously though, I just thought about making it a BattleChess clone because DeleD will allow animations eventually. So it's the other way around. Wink

Yep, you can use the right-mouse button to rotate around the y-axis. Keeping SHIFT pressed allows for other rotations as well. I'm all in for other backgrounds. I could make that customizable as well. Very Happy

Great, you can have battle chess in one of my rings. Wink

A roman coliseum would be cool too.

That looks really cool. My son saw the pic and said "awe cool Dad. Buy it so we can play". (son (14) loves chess)

Battle chess sounds like a lot of fun too.

Hehe Daaark...That would be cool. Smile

The ring thing was a joke. Let's not hijack this thread. A coliseum would look really cool. It is BATTLE chess after all.

How exactly are you going to animate those pieces? I don't mean the tools. I mean the pieces themselves.

@Daaark: yes, that's me at the Fragmotion forums. And I would definately like to use one of your rings in the future. Wink I have no idea how I am going to animate them, but I can imagine legs and arms (and possibly weapons like swords etc) coming out of the sides of a piece when it is moving towards a position on the grid. There are lots of little movies on YouTube to take inspiration from.

@Trucker: when all rules have been implemented, I can send you a beta for you and your son to play with. Smile

Wow, legs and arms does sound sort of like Harry Potter, but really would be cool. I don't know how you would pull off the arms tho. The legs would be easier.

I would definately be willing to beta test it. My son and I really do like chess. (he belongs to the chess club at school)
