I just tried to run deled on Wine on my linux machine, it worked except for a few things

a) the wgl Share list doesn t work, so you can use textures across rendering contexts
b) editing bar on the right with the primitive overview and so on doesn t appear
c) I can t edit in "face mode", I cant move faces with the gizmo although it works in "vertex mode"

What version of Delphi are you using? With Kylix you shall be able to compile linux applications for Delphi6/7

Aha, interesting experiment, thanks for posting the results!

(a) Is rather tricky to work around, loading the textures into every single context does not sound like a good idea... or does the texturing seem to work anyway? (meaning Wine does implicit sharing)

(b) So what happens if you select any of the dockable frames from the view menu (View -> Create/Edit, Scene Inspector, Object Inspector, Material Picker) and dock it to right? Does it just disappear? Does docking on the left / bottom work?

(c) The gizmo doesn't work in face mode (yet)... or did you mean polygon mode?

About Kylix: if only things were that simple. Kylix is not exactly a live and kicking product. While the idea (and the effort put into it) was great at the time, Borland(/Inprise/CodeGear/etc) buried it long before it could turn into a solid development environment. And even with Kylix, you could only get 'instant' cross platform if you original application was CLX based (with CLX being far from finished). DeleD is VCL-based, so a rewrite would definitely require a fair bit of rewrite (to a codebase that is officially declared deprecated, which doesn't make it very attractive).

Hi,

I will do some experiments with wine tomorrow, the frame on the right did appear once after installation and then disappeared.

I dunno whether wine implements texture sharing between contexts already.

Did you ever consider to port Deled to .NET/Mono?
A linux port for Deled would be really nice Smile

*click* and *click*

It is possible without any Code change to port DeleD to Linux. There are Various Software Packages out there which allows Application Virtualization. Problem: Huge License Costs. The only "free" thing out there i know is NoMachine - but that's not the real Solution. A nice one is "Thinstall" and Altiris (Wise Package Studio) have something similar. And i think Microsoft Softgrid can also do Application Virtualization.
