I'm making a scene in torque 3d. I want this scene to look, well, orchish, old, dreary, scary, etc...

This screenshot is the player view
This screenshot is from above and behind the player to give a bigger view of the area.
Something's missing, but I don't know what. Any ideas?

I guess the environment is too friendly, the grass is too green and the water is too blue. The sun also adds to it, I think.

You should replace your skybox with something more evil. Dark clouds with some red and purple colors in it. If you make the grass and water also a bit more red/purple, the whole scene should look more evil. Smile

Or use this one in the skybox Very Happy

Something more like This??

Don't pay any attention to the yellow men around the camp fire. I'm still trying to figure out why they lost their textures and where they might be hiding.

Wow.. that's some evil scene mate. Wink You see, the purple water (allthough it looks a bit surreal) really makes this more dark and frightning. Smile

Thanks for the critiques guys. It's helped. Now, If I had a frame rate >5, I would be doing much better. (if I get near the buildings, fps drops to around 3) (bad geometry)
I need to add a few more things to this scene and get the orcs sitting properly, (or at least clothed) before it's finished.

The hot red flames and the cool blue skies don't mix.

I tried 5 didfferent skys. None worked as well as this one. (I have one that's purple but makes the scene too dark to see anything)

This is my contest entry. (on GarageGames)

Edit #2: The only object in this scene that I actually made was the small bridge that goes over the river. I made it here in DeleD. The rest of the buildings and trees are from a content pack that I purchased several years ago.

Look up color theory and you'll see what I mean. If you can't fix the sky, then change the textures you can change, then the scene will look great!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_theory
http://jeffmellem.com/color-theory
http://www.wetcanvas.com/ArtSchool/Color/ColorTheory/Lesson11/index.html

Also, regardless of color, your lighting doesn't match the sun position or time of day. It appears here as very dark (but hard to tell, because usually art forums are neutral grey to not kill the eye's ability to read color right), but the skybox should be producing a grey/yellow overcast.

But it's hard to tell.

Also, if those are your models, you've improved by leaps and bounds since I last saw your stuff.

Thanks for your critiques Daark. I've done some extra work on this today. Torque 3D uses a cubemap for the skybox, and I don't have any aside from the ones that come with it. I have changed the sky to a map that has some...err..some... red in it. I've also changed the sun to lighten up the world a bit. You were correct. It was too dark. While the sun was going down yesterday, I was out in the desert where I had a clear view of how light it was, and the colors it was giving off. The light in this world is now about right and have added a little pinkish hue to it. I think it looks pretty good now.

As for the models, hahaha. No. I am No where near that good. They are from a model pack.

How does this look to you guys?
Again, click on the image for the full sized version.

I would change the tower lights to green and the fire and door light to blue. That should make it look a bit more surreal. If you can, move the sun down and darken the sky so that it looks like dusk twilight.

I can move the sun whereever I want. It actually started out behind me. I liked the look of it, so I moved it to where it is.
My biggest problem is the light is showing up dark in the image, yet in the game, it's quite bright. I haven't figured out how to fix that yet.
