I know an easy method to make those type of textures quickly. You make a really low resolution image with the basic shapes you want. Only need 3 shades. Highlight / Midtone / Shadow. Then you resample it to the size you want.

This looks bad, so you add a new layer ontop of it, and use a noise filter and make it greyscale. Then you blend it on top, just enough to get the grainy rocky look. If that makes it look too pixelated. You can blur that noise. Then add another layer of noise (with no blur this time) and blend it in. That will help to keep the edges from showing.
