Okay I don't ever ask questions unless I cant find it anywhere on the forums.
Is there a feature to import a height map? I looked in plug in sections and did not find anything.
For those that don't know what a height map is. Its a 2d black and white image where each shade of gray represents different heights. Mainly used for making terrain in games.
Main reason I'm wondering this is because my terrain program I use only exports .obj and for some reason it wont import it(freezes) which could be from the exporter. It can also export the height map.
I just need to some how get my terrain object in deleD so I can start to texture it.
Any thoughts? |

Nope, you're right there isn't a feature nor a plugin that I know of.
Heh I first read this as if you were trying to export a heightmap from DeleD (which is an interesting idea).
How big is the .obj file? I'm pretty sure if you're exporting geometry from a terrain program it's going to have a lot of triangles which would explain why DeleD is freezing on you. Beyond 30-60k triangles it gets kinda slow, and a terrain can have many times that number.
Also what terrain program are you using? Why cant you texture it there? I do not think DeleD would make a good tool for texturing terrains. |

I'm guessing you're probably using something like teragen. If that's the case, it probably is WAYYYY too high res. But, even at low res, I think it uses 5+ polys, doesn't it? You'll have to triangulate before importing into low poly programs like Deled or Ms3d. |

it was the polly count i lowered number of triangles and it works with lots of lag but works .
its a bit more bumpy but heck i figured players could use for ramps
also i use terrain generator and it wants WAD files for textures so thats why im importing into deled to do the textures. Take a little while to do but i have it halfway done already just 1 more of the islands to add sand / grass textures. We are not worrying about the grass to sand transitions since we will be adding a sidewalk with a small wall over that so players wont be able to see it |

Sometime back, I went mad making terrains. I made several and ported them into RenderMonkey. What came out the other end was some very nice materials, smooth and high quality. I draped these over some very low poly meshes, using the ilks of Mesh Labs and xNormals. _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.
