Hi all,
I just found this program today:

It is a free 3d 'clay' sculpturing program similar to Z-Brush or Mudbox, but Free!!!
I'm gonna download it and try it out

the special thing about this program is that it doesn't really work with subdivision levels, but it subdivides the mesh in realtime around your stroke. It's really intuitive but imo zbrush and mudbox still have a lot more to offer. _________________ Chickens RULE | www.elementrix.nl |

I saw the video, and was impressed, what's possible nowadays. But the models are far away from being lo-poly, i think.... |

yes they are high poly.. these are not meshes to be used in a game. they sculpt these meshes and then bake down the normals on a low poly mesh for the ingame version. _________________ Chickens RULE | www.elementrix.nl |

I did find/use the poly reduction brush, you can use it as a area brush or on the whole object.
This is a type of programme I've been looking for.. and its the right price to do organics, something I've very hopeless at. It makes me want to save up and buy a graphics tablet. _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.

Having used this programme for a while... I think the poly reducing brush is a 1st class tool. I can start by applying the brush to the whole object (Ctrl A), then use different sizes/strengths, to apply it to different areas which dramatically reduces poly's in areas that do not require high resolution. Its additive, so you can progressively apply it to areas.
The import OBJ function doesn't like meshes with more than 4 vertices per polygon. I overcame this by triangulating the mesh in DeleD before importing. No doubt I can then apply optimisation to remove the triangles, afterwards, albeit I've not gone there yet.
Its a shame it only has export functions for OBJ, if it had a export plugin system, that maybe useful.
In my opinion, its a good tool for me to do Organic shapes in, which I cannot seem to do in other programmes, then import them into say DeleD to combine those meshes, with my scene components.
I can see a big advantage in using a graphics tablet, but I do not do enough organic shapes to warrant that cost.... yet..
Thanks for sharing this Paul. _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.
