|
|
I use the Ogre Mesh exporter almost 99% of the time for all my work. When I import the exported meshes into the scene manager programme, I see this warning message now:
WARNING: BritishPostBox.mesh is an older format ([MeshSerializer_v1.30]); you should upgrade it as soon as possible using the OgreMeshUpgrade tool.
This mesh was created in DeleD only a couple of months ago, I am assuming it is the Ogre exporter that perhaps needs updating? _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.

Ogre is a well known engine. A new ogre exporter with animation support or the ogre exporter sources on the sourceforge is an awesome idea. |

Yes, it seems the Ogre format has been updated by its creators, so our plugin should be updated too, preferably. As long as the plugin isn't updated, that OgreMeshUpgrade tool should be used. The plugin code should be placed on SourceForge a.s.a.p, so other developers can pick this up too.
Btw, just wondering: is anyone actually using DeleD's animation system and wanting to export the animations to Ogre/.X/.whatever? _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

Well, if it's not exported... usally it'll not be used, but I for one would like to use the system for some of my basic animations of the world and players. |

I think that DeleD is an useful application, but it is in want of more updating:
- new importer \ exporter plugins with animation support
- nice menu icons \ interface, ...
Now I'm busy over high school but I plan to help developing and writing some plugin with animation support from July 1.

I hope that wasn't aimed at me lol.. I will have to evoke the DIY rule.

I would certainly use it, not for avatars, but NPC's like my Flag and even my water mesh. I want to experiment using more than one mesh, so I can create seashore surf, foam and waves. All doable with the animation system in DeleD.
I know, I know, most of you would use programmed normals, bump maps, and shaders.. but I'm a simple farm boy lol.. I like mechanical. _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.

That's nice to hear. I just don't see that many people playing with the animation system. Probably because there are no exporters for it yet though. But it's good to know people would use it. _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

That would be awesome. DeleD is such a great programme with growth potential if it has enough developers with free time You can make a difference.
With regard to the upgrading of the interface etc... please don't go all jelly buttoned on us. I have my OS 'eye candy' turned off, because I want to use programmes, not sit here admiring its client programmes pretty buttons etc.
I prefer wherever possible, text labels on buttons, unless the wording is so long it means confusing abbreviations. Where possible, use mainstream icons.
Consider (most interface designers don't) whilst a picture can tell a thousand words, it still has to be interpreted by the brain, then turned into a recognisable action. See an icon of a floppy disc, you will probably 'hear' the word 'disc' or 'save' in your head. Its your subconscious doing the interpretation from the picture to the word/action.
Look at companies that have been in the game for many years, especially those that server billions of people such as Microsoft, love them or hate them, they have paid huge sums of money doing research into the human psyche when developing interfaces.
