I believe a useful tool/feature to have would be to have the optimiser be applied only to the selected polygons.
I sometimes find that when I create a model with different densities of polygons in various areas, that when I apply optimise, it alters the whole model to a degree that it can destroy parts of the mesh layout. I'd like to be able to select areas of polygons that I would like optimise to be applied, to give greater control.
The only way I can do it presently is to select the areas of polygons I want to optimise, extract them, deleting the orginals, then apply optimise to the remaining polygons. That creates two meshes and I would need to reapply textures etc.
