|
|
Just a little note to say I have tried the exporter more with Unity and UDK and it seems to work ok.
Here is some info on using for these engines in case anyone usiing might save you a bit of messing.
I have found you do need to set the flipV setting for both.
models sizes are
for unity 1 deled unit = 1 meter.
for udk 1 deled unit = 1 udk unit.
This can be changed with the scale setting(which scales the model before export).
You don't need to triangulate as both engines will do this for you. Unless you want to, if you got some non convex polygons this might be a good idea, but better not to have non convex polygons in first place.
Again for both engines the origin assigned to object will be world 0,0,0 so position object accordingly to set origin where you want.
If your model is more than one object, Unity will import as a group with group origin and all sub meshes origin the same. Whether they are grouped or not in Deled. UDK however will import them as seperate objects.
Collada format allows for setting what units exported units can mean eg centimeters, meters etc. Which is not supported by exporter at moment.
Don't know if this should be added and scaling of object before export removed? So if anyone has any thoughts let me know. |

Yes!,"the confusing world of Units"... depending on the Engine in question and the 3D package, the confusing of Units will continue.
It will be nice to see for example, a whole textured room UV in to a single texture file. UDK love that as far as I know;there are other approaches but this suggestion will top them all. |

|
|
I've recently been playing with 3D Max designer 2011, mainly because it can export cleanly into Vast Park (http://www.vastpark.org/), as I have to find another corporate based scene manager to host my environments. Vast Park supports OpenCollada, which seems to deviate from most Collada formats in some way.
The Collada exporter in DeleD doesn't get materials/textures carried into Vast Park for some reason, but, neither do most Collada formats, except from 3D Max. Recap, I did have to install the OpenCollada format plug-in http://www.opencollada.org/ first just to make 100% sure.
I cannot use 3D Max as a modelling programme, life is just too short to relearn all those buttons LOL, I use it more of a 'prep scene' platform, prior to exporting into the scene manager. I also believe the MPEG exporters will find themselves into Autodesk products, before anywhere else. _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.
