Hi folks,

i told you that i took all my stuff into Torque3D to display my ideas in a better quality,
what makes it necessary to rebuild and refine nearly all what i have made.
As long as this means houses and other objects it was fun, but now i am unhappy with the terrain.
There are fantastic programs that create stunning realistic landscapes - and so i tried to get my
vision of Meynheim into such a machine, so the little town would be surrounded by natural shaped
hills and rocks. But no one of them was "taking my plan" and doing all that fantastic math on the
heightmap. So here is my question:

Is anyone of you good in landscaping? Capable and willing to take my sketch of the map, and
convert it into a state-of-the-art heightmap in 16-bit grayscale? This would be the goal:

Starting on the upper right: In the high area is a small lake filled by a waterfall, a creek running south to the middle area,
where it turns "north" and runs along the town-walls. Near the "northern" end of the town a channel leads through the wall,
then there is a waterfall down to the lower area. Here the river curves around the fortified northern end, turns "south" again
and runs again along the townwalls, and finally turns "west" and widens to the harbour of Meynheim.
Here it opens to the ocean.

The terrain for the town starts nearly at sea-level in the "south-west" and rises in 2 or 3 steps
to the rocks in the "north-east" on which the castle and, in the most "north" end the "industrial
zone" is located. In the "south-east" rises another rock, that causes the river to flow against
the town. Here sits the "tower of the mages" on top.

So, is that interesting for anyone?

How was your terrain made to begin with?
Is it a model? or ??

I would love to help you harper, but i dont have much experience with landscape'ing or heightmaps so i propably could not do better job than you.

I hope you find someone to help you because your project look's realy nice and i would like to see it get bigger and better.

Probably a stupid suggestion...but I'll put it out there anyway...

Couldn't you take your height map into a 2D program like xnView or Gimp and then add random noise? I am sure that would create a randomness to your landscape.

You could then use the same program to smooth out areas, add gradients, etc.

Of course you can paint heightmaps and use them in 3D, but even after several years of doing so, i cannot achieve a realistic erosive look
of the rocky parts of the scene. Compared to what specialized software does.
Those who don't know what i'm speaking of, can take a look here:

That look isn't paintable. Otherwise i am in need of this specific geographic layout around the town. For other areas i can generate the landscape
and see where to place things.

Of course there is a proliferation of software that can create very realistic landscapes on the fly, or from real data. What Haper needs is someone to take his idea and do it for him.

Perhaps you need to approach from another angle, namely the forums of those software programmes, and see if they can help?

I got somebody from the GeoControl-community who wants to help me.
Already received a file, but there will be a lot of format testing and finetuning
before i can import it in Torque and paint it.
Until this is done, i have time for storywriting and calculating stuff.
But then i will "finally" arrange my little world.....
