Greetings Humans,
so you want to know how to get perfectly-aligned arches ? Well here's my way of doing it! If anybody has any input / suggestions I'm all ears!
1) Start off with creating a Cylinder. Make sure it has an even amount of sides (8,12,16,...). Scale it accordingly to your grid. Set Snap Mode to "Center" (Object -> Snap Method: Center). You should have something like this:
2) Switch to Face mode and select both front faces. Select Inset. This is how it has to look now:
3) To perfectly get the grid-alignment switch to scale mode, lock the X axis and scale the faces (use Top View) so it matches up with the grid:
4) You still should have your faces selected. Press Connect. Then change object snap mode to "Vertex" and remove the lower half. Select the lowest vertices and just drag them a little so they snap to the grid:
5) Fun time! Go to Edge mode and start extruding downwards first:
Note: You may need to flip faces as they are sometimes created in the wrong orientation.
And after that sideways:
Depending if you're lazy (or efficient) you could also mirror the mesh to speed things up. Generally good advice is to always weld vertices if you move a group to the same position. There are also some faces between the walls which are not needed in most cases so it's best to remove them.
With some little more work you can get good-looking props quite fast:
Hope this helps somebody :) |
