|
|
Hi there, i made the following request a day ago.
Not trying to spam the boards but i'm affraid the post gets lost because i asked 2 questions...and 1 being answered already by Vampyre. So here it is again
Quote: |
i understand i can create a shape using polyline and then extrude it.
Very nice, but i really don't like the fact that the shape should always be closed.
Is it possible to create a line tool which only creates the line so i can afterwards extrude it? (like the linetool does in any other modeller).
What i'm doing right now is creating a grid with 1 horizontal subdivision and as much divisions as i need on the vertical axis. Then i move point by point for the needed shape. |

You can weld a few grids together, and then edtrude the edges of it along the path you need, that woudl create the same effect... (as the grid would just mimick the line after a first edge extrusion anyways)
I didn't answer that because I wasn't sure I understood what you meant. I'm still not. |

Thx for answering,
What i mean is that it would be handy if Deled would support linetools. Modo has it, AC3d has it, Lightwave...and so on.
When i can draw a line in a certain shape and then extrude it, it would be very handy.
Your solution works....but is timeconsuming if i only need a line.
Here's a picture (made in a 2d tool) of what i mean. (i dont have 3d tools at work right now).
1: i draw a line by defining some vertices (red dots)
2: i extrude this line into a shape (for example a wall)
3: done
If i had to do this in Deled i have to create a grid AND i have to know how many vertices i need from the beginning. Then i have to move the vertices point by point to define a shape. The same shape as illustrated would take 30 secs or so in Deled, while it would only take 2 if a linetool was at hand.
If it's still unclear i will create a 3d-model when i get back home.
Thx so far. |

There are many ways to achive that. You could merge a few grids into one shape, or you could make 1 grid, and extrude edges.
Try this:
1) Make a grid.
2) Select it.
3) Switch to Edge mode.
4) Click extrude.
5) Pull out the edge upwards
6) Repeat steps 4 and 5 as needed
7) Move vertices into the desired position
Different method. Same end result. |

Vampyre, thx again for replying.
your method works, but is way too time consuming.
Thx though
ps. i understand this is a true modeller feature and not something a map modeller MUST have. I just have to find my way around it. |
