I have a DeleD model from the Arteria SciFi pack (supplies centre) that has some areas closed off - and I want to put holes through the walls to connect those areas to rest of the interior (on the lower level). These walls are about 10 units thick.

I created a cube, positioned it off the ground but not touching the ceiling, moved it so that I could see part of the cube protuding through each side of the wall, deselected everything, selected object mode, shift-clicked the wall, shift-clicked the cube and clicked "CSG Subtract".

However, the result was only a rectangular indentation in the wall, not a hole going all the way through it.

I even tried positioning an additional cube going through the new, thinner wall and subtracted that as well, but this had no effect.

Is this problem due to a bug in the editor, or is there some way I can solve this and get the hole to go all the way through the wall?

I have used CSG subtraction in other situations succesfully, so it must be a property of this particular wall (or model). But I know that the model was created using DeleD, so ... ?

This sounds like an interesting problem. Can you post a screenshot of the effect you get?

Even with a screenshot it might not be possible for me to determine the cause of the error. Possibly there are polygons inside the wall, not visible for the viewer but not good for CSG routines. Note that CSG routines work with solids only (see http://www.delgine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=470&highlight=nonsolid for more info). Some types of non-solids might work in some cases but are generally best avoided. Also remember that it is perfectly possible to create non-solid models in DeleD as DeleD is a generic modeller, not a solid modeller.

Best way for me to determine the problem is to take a look at the model in question, but I bet this is a commercial model... Wink
